On Thursday, January 7th, we had a meeting with the other elementary school BTSA participants, Linda Huffman, our mentor, and Greg Steinhaus, our principal.
First Linda explained about what our program is and what we have been focusing on the last few months and then talked about the fact that we are moving into the stage of the program where we pick our focus and try it out in the classroom.
This meeting was very productive because it seemed that many of us had suggestions for each other (which of course is the hope of meetings like these).
One of the other participants suggested that I have a chart at my desk with every student's name on it so that I can easily track and record how much talking I have during my phonics period so that I can show progress in that area.
When I mentioned that I was planning on doing a behavior contract with some of my students, the other participant suggested a great resource for where I could find a behavior contract, which was helpful.
The principal was very supportive of what my focus is, and his suggestion is that I focus on targeting just one issue at a time as I work on behavior because if I try to record and track all the negative behaviors I won't have any time to teach.
Overall, I walked out the meeting feeling more equipped for the rest of the year as far as BTSA was concerned.
